Master Thesis on Implementation of Sustainability Strategies

The master thesis “Success Factors for the Implementation of Sustainability Strategies in the Energy Industry” identifies factors that enable the successful implementation of sustainability strategies, specifically in the energy industry. Here is the abstract:

In recent years, sustainability has become an increasingly pressing issue in the energy industry, as this sector is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases. Sustainability strategies at utilities provide a means to an end in solving this issue and rendering the sector more sustainable. However, having a strategy is only the starting point: what counts is putting this strategy into practice. While there are numerous academic papers on the formulation of sustainability strategies, there is a lack of research on the implementation and alignment of such strategies. Following a grounded theory research design that derives information from academic literature, grey literature, and interviews with experts on sustainability in the energy sector, this thesis identifies factors that enable the successful implementation of sustainability strategies at utilities. These are divided into factors at macro and industry level as well as at external and internal firm level.
