Here is the abstract:
This Master thesis explores the economic feasibility of decarbonization strategies for energy companies within the European Union energy sector, with a particular focus on the role of corporate communication in these strategies. It addresses the critical need for energy companies to implement decarbonization strategies in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as the energy sector is a significant contributor to global emissions. Through a systematic review of scientific literature, grey literature, and expert interviews, this research identifies effective decarbonization strategies and examines the economic challenges and opportunities associated with these strategies. Key findings highlight the importance of regulatory frameworks, financial incentives, renewable energy investments, and innovative technologies in enhancing the economic viability of decarbonization efforts. Additionally, the study underscores the crucial role of corporate communication in engaging stakeholders, managing public perception, and ensuring the successful implementation of decarbonization initiatives. By integrating theoretical insights with practical implications, this thesis provides valuable guidance for energy companies aiming to navigate the complexities of the energy transition.
