The fourth Innovation Talk in 2019 was held by Prof. J. Pinkse (Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester). In his talk, Prof. Pinkse shared insights on the changing business model landscape of the energy industry. He showed how new business models have emerged, often finding their source in start-ups, and how large firms have tried to embrace these. As an expert on energy, sustainability, and business models, who has studied the emergence of new business models in different industries, Prof. Pinkse explained how the European energy industry is currently rethinking the dominant business model by showing how the major players have changed over the past decade and where they might be heading in the near future. His talk then examined key ways in which new business models can change the dominant logic of an industry.
