This Innovation Talk with the title “Sustainable Business Model Design – Using Patterns to Create Sustainable Value” was held by Florian Lüdeke-Freund, Professor of Corporate Sustainability at the ESCP Europe School of Business Berlin. His expertise and research focus are in the area of innovative business models in the context of environmental and social sustainability. He is also the initiator of the research platform SustainableBusinessModel.org. Since 2013, he has dedicated himself here, together with scientists from more than ten countries, to central questions on sustainable business models. Furthermore, he is co-author of the book “Sustainable Business Model Design” (www.sustainablebusiness.design).
In his talk, he highlighted the fact that for more and more established companies, it is important to develop sustainable business models for themselves. However, the scope and novelty of such business models often also present companies with challenges. With the so-called “pattern approach” and application examples from different industries, the talk provided insights into a new way to successfully design sustainable business models.
