Final Presentations of Course Value Creation and Value Capture in a Digital Age

In January 2023, selected students from WU’s SIMC & CEMS master programs presented findings to partner executives as part of the course Value Creation and Value Capture in the Digital Age.

The course focused on the question of how energy utilities in Europe and beyond use digital technologies to drive the sustainability transition in the energy sector. Equipped with state-of-the-art knowledge on digital platforms, ecosystems, and value creation and capture mechanisms, students collected secondary data on use cases that describe how particular technologies such as AI and cloud computing are utilised to support sustainability outcomes (e.g. reduction of greenhouse gas emissions). Based on that data, students also applied a business model canvas to analyze the “twin transition’s” (i.e. the simultaneous management of digitalisation and sustainability in a firm’s strategizing efforts) economic benefits.
